Synopsis (taken from back of book):

He’s just a young man, but that doesn’t change the truth

He was chosen…

Sixteen-year-old Leinad thought he was a common farmer’s son, nothing more. He wondered why his father had trained him for years to master the sword—not exactly a tool of the trade for farmers—but one tragic event initiates a world of revelation.

Only then does he begin to understand his calling—a calling no other man in the entire kingdom of Arrethtrae can fulfill—a calling given him by the King himself.

Teamed with a young slave girl, Leinad is thrust into adversity and danger—for the Dark Knight and his vicious Shadow Warriors will stop at nothing to thwart the King’s plan to restore the kingdom. Leinad will need more than a sharp blade and a swift hand to fulfill his mission and survive the evil plots of the King’s sworn enemies!

Journey to Arrethtrae, where the King and His Son implement a bold plan to save their kingdom; where courage, faith, and loyalty stand tall in the face of opposition; where good will not bow to evil—and the future of a kingdom lies in the hands of a young man.

My Thoughts:

If you have read any of my “about me” page or know anything about me, you know that my favorite author of all time is Chuck Black. I first heard about him when my older sister borrowed the books from a friend. After she read them, she couldn’t stop talking about them, and she even printed out and learned all the piano music that went along with books. Seeing how much she loved these books made me start to want to read them; however, surprisingly it wasn’t until a few years later that I actually got my hands on the books. I recieved the entire Kingdom Series for an early 16th birthday present, because we went to a conference where Chuck Black had a booth set up and I was able to meet him and have him autograph all my books. It was a pretty cool experience! I remember though, that my mom would not let me read any of the books until my birthday; those few weeks were two of the most excruciating weeks of my life! I could not wait to enter their story. When my birthday finally came around, I remeber I spent pretty much the entire day enveloped in the books. They were so good that I could not put them down. I devoured book after book and I was so bummed when the series ended! Anyway, all that being said, the point is that I absolutely LOVE these books! Now…let’s get into the actual review.

Obviously I love the author’s style of writing, so i won’t get into that. However, he does know how to draw people into a story like bees to a flower…just saying.

The characters were so beautifully painted that they made me grow attached to them. From the very beginning, I wanted Leinad and Tess to get together. They were so perfect for each other and brought out the best in eachother. And it was because of Leinad that Tess was still alive in the first place. After a tragedy struck, and Leinad and Tess were left to fend for themselves, and later when they were forced to leave their home town out of safety reasons, they were so courageous, loyal, and brave together. The villains were expertly described as well; Lucious made me cringe every time his name appeared on the page. I don’t want to get into too much detail and risk spoiling the plot, so I’ll move onto the next thing.

The plot itself was beautifully written. All of the scenes in the story were expertly described in a way that made me feel like I had time traveled and entered Arrethtrae. It made me feel like I was a part of each and every experience in the book. The author brought me along with the characters in each and every way possible. I could almost hear the swords clashing and feel the sting of the Vactor Deluge.

If you are one who loves getting drawn into a story and entering into a new world–even if just for a little while–Kingdom’s Dawn is just for you. But heed my waring, have the rest of the books at close demand because once you start, you won’t want to stop until the entire series is finished!
