Many people have experienced failures in their lives. Many people have experienced a time when they quit; just gave up because they didn’t think they could go on. Frank Bettger has experienced his fair share of failures and he writes about how he overcame them in his book How I Raised Myself from Failure to Success in Selling. After being fired from his current salesman job for being too lazy, Bettger gave up the salesman job because he thought he was a failure at it. The truth was that he was not a failure at it—until he quit. One night, after talking to Dale Carnegie, Bettger made a decision that would change his life—he made the decision to stay in the insurance business and put the same enthusiasm into selling as he did when he played baseball. From that point on, Bettger became enthusiastic about selling and it transformed his life. As when anybody first starts out, he earned minimal wage, however, he remained enthusiastic about it and before long he was working his way up to a higher income.  While enthusiasm was a big part in selling, it wasn’t the only skill he learned. Bettger also shares other tools that raised him up. He shares the secrets on how to create, win, and gain a person’s confidence and he shares how even the small things like smiling, looking one’s best, and asking questions, led to more sells. How did these small things help? And what is the most important word in selling? Frank Bettger’s How I Raise Myself From Failure to Success will answer these questions and much more;it is the perfect book for any sales person who desires to succeed.

This author was MY kind of business author. Like I said in my last post, I sometimes have trouble reading business books, because the authors write so dry. A lot of times, the authors drag on about one subject and don’t add any spark or life to their content. Frank Bettger was completely different. He told so many life stories, which I always love when authors do that because it proves that what they are saying works. It also helps me relate to them. I am not currently a sales person, however, I enjoyed this book and learned a lot, because the author wrote so engaging. He kept telling story after story, and they all related to what he was writing about.

Even though I am not currently selling anything, How I Raised Myself from Failure to Success in Selling pointed out how important it is to smile. I also learned how important looking one’s best is; whether I am selling or not, it always makes a good impression on people.

In my opinion, Frank Bettger did an awesome job pointing out and teaching many valuable facts. Even if you are not a salesperson, I recommend this book, because, it teaches a lot. You can always learn something new. No matter what your occupation, Frank Bettger does an amazing job of giving the reader important life lessons, applicable for all areas of life.
